Honeybees Are Valuable To Food Production

The value of honeybees to food production, the environment and mankind is hardly ever discussed. There needs to be more talks and discussions by beekeepers with members of the public. There needs to be more educational videos and market shows about bees and their contribution to sustainability. Honey comprises all the substances necessary to maintain life such as water, enzymes, minerals and vitamins.

Bees are disappearing worldwide. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) refers to the mass disappearance of bees. CCD is caused by global warming, pesticide use, habitat loss and parasites. Without these pollinators (bees), many food crops and plants would die off. Bees pollinate a third of all the plants that humans consume. Honeybees pollinate broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, pigeon peas, pawpaw (papaya), coconut, coffee, green peppers, melon, cucumbers, lime, carrots, avocado, apples, eggplant and much more produce that comprise the human diet. Beeswax also contributes to a variety of items like candles, hair food and creams.

We should definitely try to increase the number of beekeepers, in order to also increase honey production worldwide. We have to inspire others to pursue more information, and educate themselves and others about honeybees and their important role in nature. People should also be encouraged to plant in their home gardens. Try planting more bee-friendly horticulture.

Bees are very important and necessary to sustain all life. So remember not to kill bees unnecessarily, but try to appreciate them more, because they are indeed very valuable to food production. So plant in your gardens now and reap the benefits with the help of the honeybees.
